Temporarily connect test instruments such as OTDRs, Power Meters, and VFLs to fiber without the need for splicing or connectorizing.
Features
- Provides a quick method to temporarily connect a fiber under test to a test instrument.
- Measure the length of fiber on a spool with an OTDR without having to connectorize or splice the fiber spool.
- Measure optical power present in a fiber without a connector.
- Temporarily connect a VFL to a fiber so the technician can inject visible light into a fiber that does not have a connector.
- Accepts fiber up to 250 microns.
- Connector type: SC/PC
- Compatible with multimode and single-mode fiber.
Instructions
- Strip the fiber jacket to access the 900-micron coating. Remove 50 mm (2") of the acrylic coating (250 microns).
- Clean the fiber with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
- Cleave the fiber to a length of 20 mm.
- Press the BFA-1 plunger and insert the end of the cleaved fiber, ensuring the fiber end reaches the ferrule.
- Release the plunger to secure the fiber.
Notes
- It is highly recommended to use an SC-SC coupler and a 1-meter fiber jumper/patch cord to perform the connection to the OTDR/Power Meter/VFL.
- Do not connect the BFA-1 adapter directly to the measuring instrument.
