Technical Description

The EPON OLT transceiver module is designed specifically for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON) with a transmission distance of up to 20 km. The module incorporates a 1490 nm continuous transmitter and a 1310 nm burst-mode receiver.

The transmission section uses a 1490 nm DFB laser and an integrated laser driver designed to be eye-safe under any fault condition. The laser driver includes Automatic Power Control (APC) and temperature compensation functions, designed to maintain constant optical output power and extinction ratio across temperature and aging.

The reception section uses an integrated APD and preamplifier mounted together. The module features burst-mode optical receive power detection indication. The receiver includes a digitized optical monitoring function, which directly converts any received optical power from an ONU into digital, with a trigger input from the system. When the rising edge of the trigger is detected, the DDM processor initiates a burst optical power conversion, and the digital result is available via the DDM interface after the conversion time.
