The X-ND100 is an ambient noise detector from Honeywell's X-618 MEGA series, which is part of the Automatic Volume Control (AVC) function of these public address and voice alarm systems. It measures the background noise level of the area and transmits the sound pressure level data to the X-DCS3000 controller, which adjusts the volume of announcements so that they are clearly heard above the ambient noise. It is installed flush in the ceiling, connected by a twisted pair cable to the system's control line.
