GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Multiconductor cable formed with flexible copper conductors, individual flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation (normal or semi-rigid), cabled in groups of 2 to 25 conductors, optional shielding formed by aluminized tape + drain + tinned copper braid, and an overall flame-retardant polyvinyl chloride (PVC) jacket.
SPECIFICATIONS
- UL 444 Communications Cables
- NEC Article 800 Communications Circuits
- Flame Test: RISER UL 1666 'Vertical Flame'
MAIN APPLICATIONS
Viakon® Multiconductor CM/CMR/CMP 300V/600V cables are designed for use in connecting security equipment:
- Audio systems
- Access control systems
- Alarm systems
CHARACTERISTICS
-
COPPER: used for its high electrical conductivity and good mechanical properties; it is corrosion-resistant, making it especially recommended for use in saline and/or corrosive environments, and it has high tensile and fatigue strength.
-
POLYVINYL CHLORIDE (PVC): The most widely used material as a jacket for general use. It provides good flexibility, resistance to chemical agents and abrasion, and does not propagate flame (flame retardant). It has significant advantages such as lower acid emission and reduced smoke formation. The chlorine emission from fire-resistant PVC liners is considerably higher (5%) than that emitted by standard PVC liners. Non-flammable PVC has good insulation characteristics at temperatures below 100 °C.
ADVANTAGES
- Type CM cable is defined for general communications use with the exception of 'Riser' and 'Plenum' applications.
- Type CMR cable is defined for use in vertical or floor-to-floor 'Riser' runs. Type CMR cable has suitable fire-resistance characteristics that prevent fire from spreading from one floor to another. Type CMR cable exceeds the characteristics of type CM cables.
- Type CMP cable is defined for use in ducts, 'Plenums', and other spaces used for environmental air. Type CMP cable has suitable fire-resistance and low-smoke emission characteristics. Type CMP cable exceeds the characteristics of type CM and CMR cables.
