Operation

The SK-PTIR-W detector combines photoelectric, thermal, and infrared sensors in a single unit to detect multiple components of a fire. This combination of sensors allows for greater sensitivity to real fires with improved immunity to nuisance particles.

Sophisticated algorithms maximize the advantages of the four sensor types, creating an advanced detection strategy that reduces unwanted alarms caused by conditions such as theatrical smoke, allowing its use in applications where nuisance conditions are moderate to heavy.

The detector can indicate distinct smoke and heat alarms, allowing for local alarm adjustment for photoelectric detection and a general evacuation setting based on thermal detection.

Sensors
  • Photoelectric sensor detects airborne particles associated with smoke
  • Thermal sensor detects heat and rate-of-rise (fixed temperature threshold of 135°F)
  • Infrared sensors discern light patterns in the environment as an additional data point for alarm determination
Benefits
  • Greater sensitivity to real fires
  • Higher immunity to nuisance particles
  • Reduction of unwanted alarms compared to single detection methods
  • Minimizes disruptions in multi-level buildings
