VXS series 'S' model subwoofers are ideal for VXS and VXC series speakers, seamlessly extending the low-frequency range with excellent sonic quality for a fuller, more realistic musical reproduction. Although it is no larger than a compact surface-mount speaker, the VXS3S offers solid, natural-sounding low-end reinforcement, while the VXS10S and VXS10ST make low-frequency power even more accessible for situations requiring maximum bass authority.

Various methods are used to improve low-frequency response in speakers. Bass-reflex designs use a tuned port in the enclosure to boost low frequencies. The VXS10S uses this method for more powerful reproduction. However, in smaller or slimmer enclosures, the port size is reduced, which decreases bass enhancement. Passive radiator designs avoid the port and use a passive resonance cone to boost bass. Yamaha's SR-Bass™ technology suspends a four-sided diaphragm on one side to enhance low-frequency output in speakers of various designs.
